The Basset Hound

The basset hound's physical characteristics, includ- ing it's short legs, are designed for pursuing game in difficult terrain. Today, the basset hound is known for it's trailing abilities, second only to the blood hound, and is used heavily for hunting rabbits. A natural hunter, basset hounds have a tendency to "wander" if not kept within a fenced in environment. Traditionally a pack hunter the basset hound gets along well with other dogs.
