The rhodesian ridgeback dog is a beautiful large dog of South African origin. Strong, muscular and athletic, the courageous rhodesian ridgeback was originally bred to hunt lions. They are also used to protect and retrieve. One of the outstanding features of the rhodesian ridgeback is the line of hair on its forward backbone that grows in a forward direction making the rhodesian ridgeback particularily fierce in appearance. Always a plus when stalking lions. Sporting a dignified temper- mate, the rhodesian ridgeback is often affectionate and devoted with his master but reserved with strangers.
