Monkey See Monkey Do, Escape Artist Pets, Dogs and Gates
I've always thought of
Sammie as a particularly smart puppy. However, I didn't give it much mind the other day when she kept
watching me as I went in and out the gate, watching me lift the latch each time, and I mean
really watching. The next day she proudly showed me her new skill, opening the gate!
It has to be done just right to work and she had it figured out. Use your nose to very gently lift the latch until it holds in the upright
position, then push the gate open, and that's it! She was so proud, literally jumping for joy. I must admit I felt quite guilty putting a snap hook on the
latch so she couldn't open it any more. And she wasn't happy about that at all. Sorry Sammie but we want to keep you at home.

Monkey See Monkey Do, Puppies Learn Through Observation
I often forget that smart, growing puppies can learn as much from us as they do from other dogs.
When I walk alongside my pyrenees puppy
Sammie I often reach down, grab the fur on her tail and gently
wiggle it. She seems to love it. However, now
she does this to my older pyrenees dog
Dusty, gently
grabbing Dusty's tail fur and shaking or pulling on it. I guess I made a training boo boo and
set a bad example. Sorry Dusty.

Pets and Service Men and Women Serving Overseas
We've been receiving a few photo submissions lately from service men and women. Most
have been fortunate enough to have parents or family to care for their pets while they serve overseas.
It made me think how nice it would be if those who can, volunteer to temporarily "adopt" our
soldier's pets while they serve, perhaps for a friend, relative or neighbor.
